Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This represents his initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first professional title, took control to force a decider.

He saved 4 early opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he secured victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
